COLLEGE OF MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL SCIENCES 2022 CONFERENCE

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

THEME: ELECTIONS AND POLITICS IN NIGERIA: ISSUES ON ECONOMY, MANAGEMENT, FINANCE, MEDIA, PANDEMIC, SECURITY AND MARGINALISATION

Synopsis

The political space in Nigeria is gradually becoming tense towards the 2023 general election due to campaigns and politicking. Despite the global outbreak of COVID-19 and its unpleasant submerging variants evolving and devastating the entire world, 2023 electioneering and its intending processes, which will mostly surface in 2022, cannot be downplayed. Unarguably, as the election process commences in 2022, several challenges will emerge in the country and gulfing attention would be given to politics. This will have multifarious impacts on the economy, sound media delivery, global pandemic, security, secession and demographic marginalization, and inappropriate proportions in governance will be obvious. The challenges of the 4th variant of COVID-19, Omicron, in the face of travel restrictions placed on most African countries by the western countries, would obviously play another major role in 2022 notwithstanding the economic recovery and effort of arresting the security challenge by the present administration.

These antecedent challenges faced during politicking and electioneering year call for an urgent action to cushion and control the imminent effect on the fragile recovery economy aftermath the devastating negative impact of COVID-19, management of finance, social ills and vices as a result of incessant security challenges, several secessionist agitations and demographic marginalization. Unfortunately, the unpremeditated actions by governments and institutions during election and politics would be a great concern to propel a proactive solution by scholars.

Therefore, the 2022 College of Management and Social Sciences conference is an avenue for scholars, politicians and government agencies to come together and develop strategic framework for responses in a time like this. Subsequently, the outcome of the conference will be published in the Volume 8 (Special Issue) of the College Journal. It should be recalled that in 2019 and 2021, the College Conferences were organised and articles presented were published within four months, and these publications have contributed to global knowledge.
