Just as the popular saying “Olympic is just for participation”, was the comments of many private universities at the close of 2017 Nigerian Private Universities Games (NPUGA) but Glorious Vision University (GVU), Ogwa took an exemption from this saying.
During the biennial sport fiesta that took place from 9th – 20th December, 2017 at the Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, Team GVU participated in Chess, Shot-put, Discuss, Football and Badminton.
At the reception of the contingents of GVU students, who represented the university at the 2017 NPUGA, on Monday, 22nd January, 2018, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Benard Eronmonsele Aigbokhan commended the performance of all the University’s representatives at the event and expressed delight and happiness for their success as they made the university proud. Special shower of praise was given to Abigail Usen, a 200 level Microbiology student, who won 2 silver medals, in Discus and Badminton competitions respectively.
While decorating the prize winner, the Vice-Chancellor said that the achievement made by 2017 contingent showed further that GVU does not only nurture for discipline but also excellent in all areas of life. He encouraged other athletes not to be discouraged at their performance but to put in more effort next time.
Abigail Usen, who spoke on behalf of other participants said it was a worthy experience to participate in the games as it would serve as a hop of vastness to continually perform outstandingly. He thanked the University management for the opportunity to represent GVU at the national level
