Samuel Addegboyega University, Ogwa, graduated a total number of 208 students with 20 of them bagging first class in the 2021 combined 6th and 7th convocation.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor A. Babatunde Idowu, said the 2021 convocation was unique in many ways as it marked his first convocation as the Vice-Chancellor ,as the 2020 convocation was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, the convocation also marked the 10th years anniversary of the establishment of the Institution and also the first of the newly constituted Board of Trustees and the Governing Council.

He used the opportunity to thank the visitor/Chancellor, Pastor (Dr) Emmanuel Segun Awojide and the Executive Council of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWNA Territory for their concern, passion and unalloyed support for the University. He also congratulated the newly constituted BoT led by Pastor Professor Samson A. Fatokun and the Governing Council, ably led by the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Peter Okebukola OFR.  He thanked them for their leadership quality and support for the University.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the graduating students not to forget all they learnt in GVU and remain good ambassadors of the University. He reiterated that their predecessors were doing well in the market place of life and it is expected of them to go and complement their good works.

Welcoming everyone to the epoch making ceremony, the Chancellor, Pastor (Dr) Emmanuel Segun Awojide thanked God and opined that it was an  Occasion  of joy and thanksgiving for the University seeing her seeds germinating and bearing fruits in due season. ‘’ I am particularly happy that this God-giving University has continued to make progress since it was established 10 years ago……year in year out GVU has continued to yield beautiful fruits’’ he remarked. Dr Awojide thanked the Onogie and the good people of Ogwa for their unalloyed support for the University since inception. He also thanked the immediate past BoT and the Governing Council for laying the good foundation for the new BoT and Governing Council to build on.

In his address the Chairman BoT, Pastor Professor Samson Fatokun, congratulated the graduating students and reminded all that the 2020 convocation could not hold consequent upon the COVID 19 pandemic and the inexcusable ban on public gathering nationwide. He informed that although the institution had the capacity to conduct the 6th convocation online, but the interest and preference of students and parents was respected to celebrate along with the 7th convocation, hence the combined 6th and 7th convocation ceremony. Professor Fatokun reiterated that one of the advantages the platform offered was ‘’the opportunity to reaffirm our pledge of commitment to the ideals of the proprietor and together build up Glorious Vision University to realize its vision and mission with all the resources our God has placed in our hands, in its pursuit to continually beam the light of the glorious vision among progressive universities in Nigeria and become a World– Class University as envisioned’’. He went down memory lane to enunciate the progress of the institution.

The Pro-Chancellor, Professor Peter Okebukola, in his address paid homage to the pioneer  BoT and the Governing Council ably led by Overseer (Dr) Ebenezer Olusola Okebukola,JP and Elder (Dr) Bisi Ogunjobi Jp  for laying a solid foundation upon which the new BoT and Governing Council is building upon.

He welcomed and thanked the new BoT and members of Governing Council who he described as simply amazing, for their zeal, dedication and commitment so far and prayed God for sustenance. Professor Okebukola said GVU was blessed with the caliber of VC, Professor A. Babatunde Idowu, whom he described as ‘’a man of integrity and impeccable character as a Vice-Chancellor. Ever willing to serve, ever willing to learn. Professor Idowu wakes and sleeps GVU. Professor Idowu and his Management team are wonderful partners in the GVU project’’ he affirmed. He also thanked the Convocation Lecturer, Professor Charles Ayo the former Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University and the current VC, Trinity University.  He said Professor Ayo was one of African best in Computer.

Professor Okebukola congratulated the graduating students who he said had gone through the crucible of quality training at GVU and were admitted to their various degrees. He prayed for their success in their chosen careers. He also thanked and prayed for their parents and guardians for choosing GVU.

The highlight of the convocation was the award of First and Higher degrees to the graduating students and the award honorary doctorate degree to three illustrious sons of the Apostolic Church Nigeria. Those who received the honorary doctorate degree are Pastor (Dr.) S. G. O. Uyeh JP, Overseer (Dr.) Emmanuel Olufwmi Baiyekusi, JP and Pastor (Dr.) Lawrence Onwuchekwa Ogbonnah,JP
