The Vice Chancellor of Glorious Vision University, Ogwa Edo State, Professor A. Babatunde Idowu, has called on the nation’s security chiefs to draw closer to universities in order to benefit from various research activities. Prof. Idowu made this known when he paid a courtesy call to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Philip Aliyu Ogbadu, in his office in Benin City. According to the Vice Chancellor, the university is strategically positioned to provide sustainable research findings that could solve Nigeria’s security challenge. The VC who was accompanied by the Registrar, Mr. Oluyemi Esan, and the University Chief Security Officer (CSO), Mr. Mike Ebifumilola, added that Glorious Vision University is a willing partner in nation building.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Philip Aliyu Ogbadu, expressed happiness that the Vice Chancellor appreciated the role of Police in the Nigerian security architecture. Mr. Ogbadu explained that he placed premium on University education. According to him, “the University is like my second home. I have spent a lot of time in the university during post graduate studies. In fact, I am very familiar with the running of the university system and I am ready to support any university that shows interest in research.” As a show of the Commissioner’s strong commitment to the University, he promised to immediately revive the police division in the University Community, Ogwa. The Police Chief later presented an award of friendship to the Vice Chancellor.
In appreciation, the Vice Chancellor thanked the Commissioner of Police for the award and his unwavering love for the academia and enjoyed him to always share his wealth of knowledge with the University. Prof. Idowu said he was willing to bring in the Commissioner to deliver lectures on security and other related issues. The VC added that he would be glad to have the Commissioner as one of his special guests in the forthcoming 10th anniversary Convocation Ceremonies of the University slated for November 2021.
